Dr. Mei-Yan Lu is a captivating international cruise enrichment speaker with a lifelong passion for teaching and research. She retired as a tenured full Professor and Department Chair of Educational Leadership at San José State University in San José, California, where she dedicated 33 years to excellence in education. During her career, she also served as Associate Dean for the College of Education.
She now holds the honorary title of Emeritus Professor, which means she retired with special recognition for her decades of outstanding teaching, research, and leadership at the university. She has received multiple teaching and research awards. She is widely recognized for her ability to inspire learners of all ages—from preschoolers to senior citizens. With over 33 years at San Jose State University and 40+ years of teaching experience, she tailors her talks to fit the cruise line and audience—ranging from academic style lectures to fun, interative, engaging sessions for all audiences to enjoy.
Since her retirement, Dr. Lu has transformed her passion for teaching and research into a new life at sea, delivering over 60 engaging enrichment talks aboard Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises. Her talks span a wide range of topics—from ancient myths and tea rituals to food as medicine and longevity secrets—always delivered with warmth, cultural insight, and humor.
