Jim Jacobs has a lifelong passion for culture, history, and geology, which he enjoys sharing with cruise guests in clear and engaging ways. He holds a B.A. in English and Geology from Franklin & Marshall College and an M.A. in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin. His career spans roles as an oil geologist on Alaska’s North Slope and in California, the founder of an environmental consulting firm in San Francisco area, and a licensed Professional Geologist and forensic expert assisting in environmental disputes.
He is a Fulbright Scholar having received four Fulbright Senior Specialist awards from the U.S. State Department for his teaching. He is also a Virtual Fellow of the State Department and a Fellow of the National Groundwater Association and the Geological Society of London. He has co-authored five environmental science books. Since 2021, Jim has been pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Cruz, researching coastal flooding and sea level rise in San Francisco Bay.
